Trading and
Optimisation
Active dispatch optimisation governed by Vol-OS and executed through a licensed AEMO market participant.
One Platform. Trading and Contract Aligned.
Most battery optimisers manage your market participation; however, the asset is still exposed to the volatility of the electricity market and the asset revenues are variable.
Basis Energy is both the revenue counterparty and the party trading the battery, our interests are aligned. We are incentivised to maximise the battery's trading performance, because that's how we capture value above the guaranteed fixed payment.
This integration means there is no conflict between trading strategy and contractual obligations, a structural advantage over third-party trading firms that operate independently of the revenue agreement.
Why Dispatch Optimisation Matters
The NEM is one of the most price-volatile wholesale electricity markets in the world. Every five minutes, AEMO dispatches generators in merit order, and the price of the last unit dispatched sets the spot price for that interval across the region. Prices range from -$1,000 per MWh in surplus renewable conditions to the market cap of $23,200 per MWh under stress.
For a battery storage asset, that volatility is the revenue opportunity. Capturing it requires a dispatch strategy that responds at the same five minute resolution the market uses to settle.
How Dispatch Works
Vol-OS sets the dispatch strategy for the contracted asset and dispatches the energy through a licensed AEMO market participant. The objective function is maximised total revenue across all permissible markets, subject to the batteries operational constraints.
Governance
and Audit
Vol-OS continuously generates a shadow benchmark of what the contracted asset should have earned under optimal dispatch given the realised market conditions. The shadow benchmark is compared against actual performance to identify variance, attribute it to operational and price capture factors, and verify settlement.
Every asset under a Revenue Swap Agreement receives access to a real-time performance dashboard. This governance layer protects all parties to the swap.
